A Virtual Tour of Suffolk County’s Lighthouses by Robert Muller Muller, an accomplished author, historian, and founding president of the Long Island Chapter of the U.S. Lighthouse Society, is passionate about lighthouses. A Natural History of Long Island by Glenn A. Richard. ADK member Glenn A. Richard is educational coordinator at the Earth Science Educational Resource Center at Stony Brook University. An expert on Long Island’s field geology and ecology, his presentation will illuminate the places we will explore during Spring Outing from a scientific, aesthetic and recreational perspective. He’ll also share samples of rocks, shells and pressed plants of the types we’ll see on our local outings. A noted environmentalist, birder and Pine Barrens expert, John Turner co-founded the Pine Barrens Society in 1977 when he was still in college. He has also worked as director of conservation for the Nature Conservancy and as natural resource manager for the Suffolk County Parks Dept. His talk will touch on the Pine Barrens’ unique ecosystem, including its flora, fauna and significance as a natural resource. For more information, visit www.pinebarrens.org. |
