ADK Leader Profiles: Ineke Van de Vijver
ineke
My name is Ineke Van de Vijver and I was born and raised in Flanders (Belgium). I attended university in Ghent and was a librarian for 13 years. My native language is Dutch. I also speak French, German and of course English.

The various places I lived in the world are Israel, Madagascar, Western Samoa and Canada.  I loved Israel because of the Kibbutz system and Western Samoa for the Socialist nature of that country.  Families all lived together under one roof. The communities were small and decisions were made in meetings that were held once a month.  I missed intense community living my whole life. For that reason I'm going to live in an intense community in Ithaca called Eco village from September on.

I came to the US 10 years ago and became a hiking leader for ADK. I found friends who shared my love for nature and different cultures. I was a leader for trips to Nepal (5); Sikkim; England (Coast to Coast hike); France; Italy (Alta Via in the Dolomites); Argentina (Patagonia hiking); Belgium and the Netherlands.  My last endeavor was biking across the US from Coast to Coast which I did in the fall 2004.

I think of myself as a sharing person. I like to share good and bad times with people. I also can relate to problems because of having four active boys. They made me more aware of what can happen and what to deal with on trips. The way I like to travel is with a backpack and I try to do it economically. I hope there are still people out there who are like-minded.

See you on a trip!

Thanks,
Ineke
