David Golibersuch
was born and raised in snowy Buffalo.
As a child he hated
winter and dreamed of a California future.Dave was educated as a physicist at RPI, the University of Pennsylvania, and Imperial College of Science and Technology. Recently retired, he made his living pursuing interests in biophysics, energy, microelectronics, artificial intelligence, and decision theory and their application to GE's diverse businesses. During that time, he held leadership positions ranging from project management involving 3 to 30 people to executive management when he was responsible for 150 people and multi-million dollar budgets. Dave enjoys a life of adventure and time with family and friends. He has two daughters, three grandchildren, and an active extended family. Dave's first outdoor leadership experience was the summer after he graduated from elementary school when he worked as a counselor at a Boy Scout camp. More contemporary outdoor educational experiences have included: Colorado Outward Bound Classic Rockies Mountaineering, SOLO Wilderness Medicine and Winter Medicine courses, training for high Arctic expeditions, ADK and AMC Winter Mountaineering programs, and AMC Volunteer training. In recent years, Dave has trekked above the Arctic Circle on five occasions including a life-altering journey to the North Pole in 1999. Dave currently serves as an AMC Volunteer. As an occasional weekend resident of the high peak huts in New Hampshire, he provides information & assistance to 100's of guests and day hikers. Dave is a frequent presenter to area groups on his adventures. Another of Dave's special interests is Russia. He loves her people and her vast areas of preserved wilderness. He has visited Russia four times including Kamchatka in the Russian Far East and Wrangel Island off the northeast coast of Siberia. He is presently trying to learn the Russian language. On starry nights, he can frequently be found trying to find his way around the heavens. When not communing with Nature, Dave enjoys trying to cook and attending museums, opera, and theater. Dave once opened a fortune cookie to read "You make people realize that there exists other beauties in the world." He adopted that as his continuing ambition. By the way, he never did live in sunny California. Instead he became a hivernaut and prefers to travel north whenever possible. An exception was his visit to the geographic North Pole; from there, he could only go south. 859 Gower Road Glenville, NY 12302 dave@winterwanderer.com http://www.winterwanderer.com (518) 374-0428 |
