I have been a member of the Genesee Valley Chapter for
over 20 years.I started canoeing with my father when I was 8 years old. At age 18 I found a job as a canoe tripping guide for a camp in Algonquin Park, Ontario, Canada. I worked there for about 15 summers and was the Camp Director my last five years there. I stopped working there in 1988. With a family of three children and the oldest starting school it was an easy choice on who to spend my summer vacations with. I have worked as a Registered Nurse since 1980 in Medical/ Surgical/ Intensive Care/Coronary Care/and Cardiac Rehab. I now work in a residential program for teens with mental health problems. With two of my children done with college and the third finishing her second year I now have the time to lead canoe trips in Algonquin Park again. Besides Algonquin Park, I have taken wilderness canoe trips down the Steel and Pukaskwa Rivers into Lake Superior and down the Missinaibi River into James Bay. I have been on several trips in La Verendrye Park in Quebec and canoed extensively in the Temagami area of Northern Ontario. I have grown to realize what a great place Algonquin Park is for a true wilderness experience. From the primitive areas to the wildlife it has much to offer. The fact that it is only a one day drive from anywhere in Upstate New York shows how lucky we are. Contact Dave |
