![]() My outdoor experience started at age 19 when a friend asked me to join him on a hike of the section of the Appalachian Trail within the borders of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. I was living in Knoxville, Tennessee, at the time, and it seemed like it would be great fun. Although it rained for more than half the time, I was smitten! After climbing all but one of the high points in the Smokies, I moved to Rochester for a career with Kodak…from which I’m now retired. I was a Boy Scout leader for over 20 years before becoming involved in ADK seriously. After having been Chapter Chair for Genesee Valley Chapter twice, I am now an Associate Vice President of ADK. Along the way I’ve backpacked, hiked, and climbed in California, New York, New Mexico, Arizona, Washington, Oregon, Wyoming, Montana, Colorado, Utah, England, Alaska, Switzerland, and Canada. Having been an avid runner for many years, my uncooperative knees have now made canoeing and kayaking more practical. Flatwater trips in Kilarney, Algonquin, Kipawa, and the Adirondacks led to more ambitious trips and whitewater. Trips to the Allagash in Maine, the Missinaibi in Ontario, the Salmon and Snake rivers in Idaho, the Colorado in the Grand Canyon, and the South Nahanni in the Northwest Territories of Canada followed. As I began leading sea kayaking trips for the Rochester ADK Chapter to the coast of Maine, I started thinking about leading ADK Club trips. In 2003, I led a Rochester ADK Chapter trip down the flat water section of the Green River in Utah and fell in love with the area. The group from Rochester loved it! Thus it seemed a perfect place to lead an ADK Club trip. Come and see this unique and spectacular area! Contact Jim |
