Route was established almost a hundred years ago as a high
mountaineering route that linked two of Europe's premier mountaineering
centers, Chamonix and Zermatt. The Haute Route, (or the High Route or
Mountaineers Route) is the name given to this route undertaken by foot
or ski by an English hiking Club. Few long distance hikes offer the variety and grandeur of landscape as this route. This hike is nothing short of fantastic! This is a strenuous route covering about 78 miles and crossing 11 passes, many over 9000 feet. You must an experienced hiker in excellent physical and climbing condition.
