Mary
Coffin, Leader
This
is a hiking trip that will focus on the natural history and diverse
ecosystems on the Olympic Peninsula of Washington State. The Olympic
Peninsula and the Olympic National
Park offer distinct contrasting
environments: Glaciated peaks, sub alpine meadows, wild Pacific coast,
magnificent stands of old-growth forests and temperate rain forests.
Alpine wildflowers should be at their peak.
We
will hike daily, 4 to 8 miles RT with a naturalist guide and a maximum
elevation gain of 1500 feet. Hikes will vary from alpine ridges with
views of glacier capped peaks, and meadows abundant with wildflowers on
several days to deep valleys of the temperate rainforests with their
huge old growth trees, giant ferns and hanging mosses and lichens.
