The Outings Committee is made up of Adirondack Mountain Club members who volunteer their time to organize and plan extended and seasonal outings as a service to Club members. Anyone is welcome to join one of these Adventure Travel outings, as long as they are willing to join the Adirondack Mountain Club, where their dues will help support the mission of the Club and programs in Conservation, Education and Recreation.

Adventure Travel trips are extended recreational outings, both within the continental United States and abroad. Most are hiking trips of 7 - 10 days in length; some involve paddling. Lodging ranges from primitive camping to inn-to-inn accomodations on the trail, to comfortable hotels. The volunteer trip leaders sometimes employ a guide or outfitter. The whole purpose is to provide outdoor experiences with like-minded people.

Eco-tourism is often the focus of an extended outing and trip leaders will arrange for outings or presentations led by experts in their field on topics such as archaeology and human and/or natural history specific to the location.

Most of these hiking and paddling trips are for people with reasonable fitness levels and experience - more strenuous outings are clearly identified and the trip leaders screen all potential participants to determine whether they are capable of participating.

Trips are planned for Maho Bay, in the Virgin Islands; Hiking in Costa Rica; Hiking in Ireland; Canoe Camping along the Missouri River; Hiking in the White Mountains; Hiking in Switzerland; Hiking Hut-to-Hut Across the Alps & Dolomites; Hiking in New York State Leatherstocking Country; Hut-to-Hut Hiking in Norway; Hiking in the Canadian Rockies; Canoeing in Algonquin Park; Hiking in Maine; Hiking in Virginia.
