 Think sun, warm turquoise water and
palm trees. St John is the smallest of the USVI and is 2/3 National Park. It is a quiet and beautiful island and in spite of the new construction still unspoiled. Maho Bay Camp has canvas and screen tents, which are wood, framed and are really small cabins. They have a sleeping area, a living/dining area and a small porch. Bathrooms and showers are in a nearby building. All campground areas are connected by walks and stairways so as not to disturb the vegetation. St John is famous for its beautiful beaches and we will visit a different one every day. Mostly we will swim and snorkel but we will take in the sights including the Reef Bay Sugar Mill and the cliffs of Rams Head. Our longest hike will be 6 miles to the sugar mill and the petroglyphs. Some past participants have enjoyed the birding and some of the islands best birding sites are within walking distance of the camp. You can do as much or as little as you want. June and Herb know the island well, having vacationed here for over 15 years so if you have any questions, just ask. Outing Cost: The cost will be $1100.00 per participant Accommodations: Maho Bay Camps, www.maho.org Travel: St. John has hundreds of boat moorings but not one airport. For most travelers, getting to and from St. John ends and begins at the St. Thomas airport (STT). From the airport take a taxi to Red Hook, (45 minute cab ride), and then take a passenger ferry to St. John departing hourly from 6am to midnight. Cost in 2010 was $6 per person and $2.50 per bag. If you miss the ferry at Red Hook (they generally are punctual), just wait in the terminal. You can get a drink or a bite to eat while waiting. We encourage Maho guests to seek out Mr. Frett who owns and runs a taxi shuttle (an open but covered safari style truck) between Cruz Bay and Maho Bay. He meets the 9 am, 11 am, 1 pm, 3 pm, 5 pm, 7 pm and the 9 pm ferries from Red Hook. He charges $9 (in 2010) one person, one way - luggage extra. If you wish to wait for Mr. Frett, there are nearby shops to explore. If you miss Mr. Frett, any one of dozens of taxis will take you to Maho from Cruz Bay although the rate will be higher.  Payment Policy: A deposit of $400 is
due at registration. The remaining balance of $700 is due no later than
December 1, 2010.
Cancellation Policy: If you need to cancel
the trip for any reason, $315 of the deposit is refundable until December 1, 2010.
After December 1, no refunds are possible unless your space can be
filled from a waiting list. However, if ADK cancels the trip or if in
the opinion of the leader, this trip is not for you, the full amount
will be refunded.
