Daily Itinerary

On any given day the itinerary may change slightly due to weather (wind, rain), water/trail conditions or group strength.

DAY 1, Thursday, May 21, 2009:
Travel, rendezvous with group and orientation. Fly into Little Rock, AR airport where we will be met by our outfitter’s van(s) at 4:00 pm. Arrange flights to arrive before 4:00. There will be a 2 hour ride to Hasty Campground, near Chimney Hole, a natural bridge near the Buffalo River. Here we will participate in a canoe orientation and set up camp for the night.

DAY 2, Friday, May 22, 2009
Wake up along the flowing river, eat breakfast and paddle your way towards the Mt. Hersey Campsite. Throughout the day you'll catch glimpses of seasonal wildflowers, towering bluffs, and relics of early settlers and Native Americans. Wrap up the day with a relaxing swim or chance to go fishing.

DAY 3, Saturday, May 23, 2009
Have a chance to leave the canoes for a while and explore the bluffs created by the Richland Creek and Buffalo River. These waterways have eroded away at the rock leaving a 4 ft wide dividing bluff. Hiking up the backbone of the bluff yields a great view of the river and Richland Valley. Return to your canoes and paddle further on down stream. If water levels are right, there may be the possibility to paddle into one of the cavities of Skull Bluff. Camp for the night at Woolum Campground.

DAY 4, Sunday, May 24, 2009
The last full day on the river will take you from Woolum Campground to Tyler Bend Campsite. You may have the opportunity to view some of the wildlife along the river like whitetail deer, bobcat, and mink. Finish up the day with a hearty dinner and sharing of stories around the campfire.

DAY 5, Monday, May 25, 2009
Visit the Collier Farmstead and Overlook. Then paddle a short distance to Grinders Ferry where you'll have lunch and prepare for the hiking portion of your trip.

DAY 6, Tuesday, May 26, 2009
Spend the day exploring a selection from over 100 miles of trails throughout the Buffalo River Region, America's first protected national river. Routes to be decided.

DAY 7, Wednesday, May 27, 2009
The last morning of the trip concludes with a morning hike and a return shuttle to Little Rock. A picnic lunch will be provided along the drive.
Do not plan departure flight before 1PM
