Itinerary
DAY 1, July 11, 2008: Travel to the village
of Sion, the capital of Valais. Travel time by train from Geneva is 2
hours and from Zurich 3 hours. In the afternoon, we will tour the
village and its famous Castles. At 6:30 pm, we will all meet for
introductions; trip overview; orientation; get acquainted dinner.
 DAY 2, July 12, 2008: Transfer by public
bus (voucher included) from Sion to Les Collons (45 min). We will then
hike one of the nearby peaks.
Hiking time: 5 hours. Ascent & descent height: est. 2000 ft. DAY 3, July 13, 2008: Hike from Les Collons
(1748m) to Dixence (2365m) Hiking time: 5 hours. We will follow the
famous foot race Thyon Dixence. Overnight at the foot of the highest
weight dam in the world: the Grande-Dixence. Ascent height 750m,
2475ft; Descent 250m, 825ft.
DAY 4, July 14, 2008: Hike from Dixence
(2365m) to Arolla (2006m). Hiking time 5 _ hours. After leaving
Dixence, you will follow the beautiful Dix lake and cross the Cheilon
footbridge before starting the climb towards the Reidmatten Pass
(2919m-9632ft.) or the Pas-de-Chevre from where we will discover the
magnificent Arolla Valley 6620ft. Two overnights in Arolla. Ascent
height 850m, 2805 ft.; descent of 1350m, 4455ft.
DAY 5, July 15, 2008: Hike one of the
nearby peaks. Hiking time 6-7 hours. Ascent height 400-500m, 1320-1650
ft.
DAY 6, July 16, 2008:Hike from
Arolla (2006m) to Evolene (1452m) Hiking time: 5 hours. Hike to
Evolene via “la gouille” follow the hiking trail to the left of the
main road towards Jouttes and Grandpra. Continue towards Arbey the
Lana, making a loop via Chemeuille. Overnight stay in Evolene or les
Haudres. Ascent height 260m, 858ft.; descent 920m, 3036ft.
DAY 7, July 17, 2008: Hike from Evolene
(1452m) to Becs de Bosson Hut (2985m) Hiking time: 5 _ hours. From
Evolene we head in the direction of Volovron (1760m), and l'A-Vieille
(2368m) where we will then arrive at the Becs de Bosson Hut via the Pas
de l'ona. Overnight stay at the Becs de Bosson Hut. 9850ft. Ascent
height 1640m, 5412 ft.; no descent.
DAY 8, July 18, 2008: Hike from Becs de
Bosson Hut to Nax (1265m) Hiking time: 4 hours. From les Becs de Bosson
we hike to the Louche Lake (2580m, 8514ft.) and return to the valley
via the Cou Pass (2528m, 8342ft.) to Nax 4175 ft. Overnight stay in
Nax. No ascent; Descent height: 1700m, 5610 ft.
DAY 9, July 19, 2008: After breakfast, we
return to Sion via public bus (voucher included) where the trip ends.
