ITINERARY
ADK, trip leader, and/or SouthWest

Day 1, Saturday, September
27, 2008:
Courtesy Airport
Transfer from Shannon Airport
Arrive at our
guesthouse/hotel in Killarney where we stay for the next 2 nights
Short walk in the
Ross Castle area of the lakes
Welcome Evening
dinner and a general chat/briefing about the coming walks
Day 2, Sunday, September
28, 2008:
We take a wonderful
hike through the famous Gap of Dunloe with fabulous views over the
Lakes of Killarney & spectacular glacial formations in this
well-known and famous valley. Distance: 16kms. Duration: 5
hours. Max. Height: 350m. Rocky and sometimes wet & muddy tracks
and road walking. Boots are essential.
Transfer back to
Killarney. Free Evening in Killarney.
Day 3, Monday, September
29, 2008:
Carrantuohill,
Ireland’s highest mountain calls us today. This is a spectacular hike
for those that are interested. Height: 1038mts. Up/down same track.
Duration: 6/8 hrs. Boots are essential.
An alternative
attraction if required will be a boat trip on the lakes with a visit to
Innisfallen Island.
Overnight and Evening
Dinner in Killarney. Local Singsong and music.
Day 4, Tuesday, September
30, 2008:
Hike from Killarney
to Kenmare passing the historic Muckross House and Gardens. Continue
through Killarney National Park
towards Peakeen
Mountain with glorious views over Kenmare Bay. Distance: 20kms.
Duration: 5 hours. Max. Height: 400m.
Mountain tracks and
open roads. Can be wet - boots recommended.
Transfer from the end
of the walk to the award-winning village of Sneem, where we stay for
our next 2 nights
Dinner and overnight
in Sneem.
Day 5, Wednesday, October
1, 2008:
Hike from Sneem to
the spectacular Staigue Fort. This is a glorious hike with
breath-taking views to the south over Kenmare Bay to the Beara Peninsula
and west towards Derrynane. Distance: 16kms. Duration: 5
hours. Max. Height: 400m. Grass tracks, open bog land and rough
mountains. Can be wet underfoot - boots essential. Some
road walking.
Return to Sneem for
evening meal and overnight.
Day 6, Thursday, October
2, 2008:
Leaving Sneem we
enjoy a wonderful morning hike around the historic Derrynane National
Park and Abbey Island with great coastal vistas. This was once
the home of Daniel O’Connell, The Liberator. From here we continue
along this majestic coastline with views out to the Skellig Rock,
to the lovely village of Waterville. Distance: 16kms. Duration: 5
hours. Max. Height: 300m. Some road walking, grass tracks and
rough heather. Boots are essential.
Short transfer to
Portmagee for evening meal and overnight
accommodation.
Day 7, Friday, October 3,
2008:
Today, if weather,
wind, sea and boats permit, we offer a visit to the world famous
heritage site and spectacular island of Skellig
Michael, (7th
Century) 12kms. off the coast. This is an optional trip and charged as
an extra. 2007 price is Eu.35pp.
Should the weather
not oblige, an alternative walk will be on Valentia Island.
Free night for
Evening Meal.

Day 8, Saturday, October
4, 2008:
For our hike today,
we follow an ancient and fascinating stagecoach trail from Kells, just
outside Cahersiveen, and enjoy the most wonderful scenery of
the week as we walk along the shores on Dingle Bay east towards
Glenbeigh. A truly memorable walk for our last day on the
Ivreagh Peninsula. Distance: 18kms. Duration: 5hours. Max.
Height: 450m. Grass and rocky tracks, open bog land and some road
walking. Boots are essential.
Overnight and
farewell Gala Dinner will be in Glenbeigh.
Day 9, Sunday, October 5,
2008:
Departures: After
breakfast, we transfer back to Shannon Airport and say farewell to the
Emerald Isle. Transfer time approx 3 hrs.
