ATTEAN LAKE LODGE, MAINE HIKING
September 9—15, 2007
$1130
Jack Finnegan, Trip Leader

maine1ROOM FOR JUST 2 MORE - DON'T MISS THIS GREAT OPPORTUNITY!

Come join us Jack and Shelley Finnegan and ten other ADKers, at Attean Lake Lodge—still our favorite place. “Att-e-uhn” as you will come to call it isn’t a place but an experience.

Located in the northwest corner of Maine, in a town called Jackman, there is simply no place quite like Attean. Set on an island in a beautiful unspoiled lake and surrounded by the majestic peaks of the northern reaches of the White Mountains, Attean is a wilderness paradise that you will never forget. Combining breathtaking scenery with good old-fashioned hospitality, Attean is the ideal escape from the hustle and bustle of normal life. In fact, we will be transported via cabin cruiser from the mainland leaving even our cars behind.

Hiking opportunities abound from our island retreat. Most will use motorboats to access the many trailheads and to explore the other 22 islands. We are also planning a 14 mile spirited raft trip on the Kennebec River and a hike on the Appalachian Trail over Pleasant Mountain.

Accommodations are in very comfortable log cabins tucked away along the northwest shore of Birch Island and nestled amid towering pines, spruce, and birch. The completely furnished cabins feature a private porch with lake and mountain views, a wood burning fireplace, hot and cold running water and full modern baths. Wood for your wood box and ice are delivered daily. Support staff cleans your cabin and bring fresh towels daily. The cabins do not have electricity, which really adds to the charm. They do have propane gas lamps.

We will be treated to three delicious home-style meals served in a window-filled main dining room. Wait until you see the view from this log-constructed lodge. Breakfast begins in a hearty New England style. Choose from eggs to order, whole wheat French toast and fruit, along with homemade muffins and plenty on coffee. Lunch is taken along in our coolers as we explore the area’s many attractions. Dinner is prepared with pride by the Island’s chef featuring such house specialties as prime rib, fresh Maine lobster, stuffed veal chops and ratatouille. The meals are simply—outstanding.

Price of $1130 ($75 nonrefundable) includes: All accommodations, all meals, and the raft trip. Not included: beer or wine with dinner.
