IRELAND VILLAGE TO VILLAGE: HIKING THE BURREN, ARAN ISLANDS AND CONNEMARA   May 5 to May 13, 2007 $1755 Dick Ernenwein, Trip Leader NOTE: THIS OUTING IS NOW FULLY BOOKED - PLEASE CONTACT THE TRIP LEADER TO GET ON THE WAITING LIST Come join your fellow ADKers on this Ireland adventure hiking from Doolin along the Burren and Cliffs of Moher, to Inis Mor and Aranmor in the Aran Islands and then on to Kylemore and Galway in Connemara. The Burren and Connemara face each other across Galway Bay. It is hard to imagine two more contrasting landscapes. We will hike for 2_ days on the Burren, 1_ days on the Aran Islands, and 3 days in Connemara staying in 5 different Villages. Ireland is well known for the friendliness of its people, its beautiful scenery, its flora and fauna and above all, its culture and history. We will explore all of this each day as we hike the hilltops and valleys, coastal paths and “green” roads, highlands and lowlands, bogs, and beaches. We will have guided hikes (using our own very knowledgeable local Irish guide) for 6 of the 7 hiking days and I will lead the self-guided hike for the other day. The level of walking/hiking is mostly moderate with easy and strenuous sections with elevation gains of 300 ft. to 1200 ft., distances of 7 to12 miles and hiking time of 4 to 6 hours. I hope to lead at least one optional climb on one of the nearby mountains in Connemara with a possible vertical of 2000ft. Most days we will start by 8:30 am and end by 3:30 pm leaving plenty of time for resting, shopping, sightseeing, or socializing. Click HERE for the detailed daily itinerary. The 8 evenings will be spent in 5 different very comfortable and friendly, family owned Inns typical of the wonderful Irish hospitality. All rooms will be double occupancy with private bathrooms; single occupancy may be available at an extra cost. Our luggage will be moved each time we hike to a different Inn allowing us the luxury of hiking with just our light daypacks. Any participant can choose to travel with the luggage, or opt out of any scheduled hike. It may also be possible for a participant to hike partial days. Trip cost of $1755.00 ($75.00 non-refundable) includes 8 nights double room occupancy, 8 full breakfasts, 6 evening dinners and 6 trail lunches (the other 2 dinners and lunches will be taken in local restaurants/pubs), 6 days of guided hikes, transfer to and from Shannon Airport on arrival and departure days, ferry fare/transfer to Aranmor from Doolin and return to Rossaveel, and all local transfers to and from our Inn and the trail heads.
