Paddle and Hike the
Missouri River (Missouri Breaks National Monument) much as Lewis and
Clark did 200 years ago. Start at Coal Banks Landing and float beneath
fantastic sandstone cliffs and white stone spires that 19th Century
explorers compared to Europe's finest cathedrals. Many spectacular land
forms grace this section of the river, among them Eye of the Needle,
LaBarge Rock, Citadel Rock and Hole in the Wall. Set up camp under
cottonwood trees at Slaughter River, a Lewis and Clark site, and read
from their journals. Hear prairie dogs chirp and whistle from their
extensive "towns" nearby. Explore abandoned homesteads within easy
hiking distance of your campsite. End your adventure at Judith Landing,
a historic area for the Blackfoot tribe, fur traders, and steam boaters.
We will explore this wilderness area by canoe (downstream) and on foot
but without portages and camp in tents along the shore each night.
