Daily Itinerary

Daily Plan: 7:00 breakfast and break camp, 8:30 launch, 12 ish lunch break, 3:00 set up camp, 6:00 dinner followed by evening relaxation, reading, nature watching.

Day 1-Wednesday 9/5/07
Arrive before 4:00pm at Whitney, ON. Meet group, set up camp at Rock Lake Campground within the park and pick up canoes and equipment. Dinner will be at the campsite. Orientation will follow dinner and we will pack group and individual canoe bags before retiring. Rock Lake campground has showers and flush toilets. Whitney, just outside the park, is about 6 hours from Syracuse.

Day 2-Thursday 9/6/07
After a quick breakfast we will break camp, car pool to Canoe Lake where the canoes will be delivered, load canoes and launch. We canoe the length of Canoe Lake, portage 0.2 miles into Joe Lake and set up camp.

Day 3-4-5-Friday and Saturday 9/7-8/07
Group options include Tom Thompson Lake, Burnt Island Lake (2 portages 0.7mi, 0.1mi) or Joe Lake (portage 0.3 mi), Mizzy Trail hiking. We will paddle, camp and hike together as a group. Hopefully we will see evidence of or sight wildlife such as turtles, loons, beaver, otter, mink, deer, wolf, moose, eagles, herons, mergansers and kingfisher, see the Northern Lights and hear wolves howling or loons calling as we drop off to sleep. Bring some good campfire stories to share.

Day 5-Sunday 9/9/07
After breakfast and packing up we will continue our explorations/water safari of Joe Lake and when we have had our fill we will portage 0.2 mi back into Canoe Lake and to take out. We will return to Rock Lake Campground, set up tents and enjoy the luxury of showers and flush toilets. We will eat dinner in camp and enjoy a campfire.

Day 6- Monday 9/10/07
There are several options available near Rock Lake Campground: hiking the old RR beds and sawmill artifacts, the Centennial Ridges Trail (5-6 mi.), to the remains of Barclay Estate (until 1953 owned by Judge George Barclay), or excellent Visitor’s Center and Logging Museum.
Farewell Dinner (included) will be held at a restaurant, a short drive into Whitney.

Day 7- Tuesday 9/11/07
Today we bid goodbye and return home unless extending the trip on your own. Some may wish to return to the Visitor Center, Logging Museum or hike/canoe more of the trails/lakes in the park before leaving. Meals are on your own today.
