Mary Coffin, Trip Leader

beaver damNOTE: THIS OUTING IS NOW FULLY BOOKED - PLEASE CONTACT THE TRIP LEADER TO GET ON THE WAITING LIST

This is a canoe camping trip in Algonquin Provincial Park, Ontario, Canada. Algonquin Park has 1200 miles of canoe routes connected by well-established portages. The seven-day canoe trip includes wilderness camping, hiking, historic sites, wildlife viewing and spectacular shoreline vistas.

In 2007 we will explore a different route: Canoe Lake north to Tom Thompson Lake, with just a few very short portages and enjoy wilderness camping and hiking along the route. Wildlife viewing and photo opportunities might include loons, eagles and hawks, beaver, otter, moose and timber wolves. Fall is a great time to explore the area.

One does not need to be an expert canoeist but should have basic skills, and the physical conditioning to paddle 4-6 hr/day and carry gear and canoes while portaging up to 0.7 miles in one location. Most portages are less than 1/4 of a mile. Participants should enjoy the challenges of wilderness camping, be a team player and be willing to share duties and help others. Side attractions include the excellent Alqonquin Visitor Center with its dioramas depicting human and natural history of the park and the Logging Museum.
