Tentative Itinerary
Day 1-Saturday, April 15, 2006 Arrive in Loreto, Mexico in the evening after all day flights. Spend the night in a comfortable hotel there. Day 2-Sunday, April 16, 2006 Ride from Loreto airport to Bahia Concepcion by bus. (about a 2 hour ride). This is a fantastic bay with surrounding mountains, turquoise water, porpoises, great snorkeling, reefs, islands and sandy beaches. Hot springs are nearby. We will have a seafood welcome dinner at an open air seaside restaurant. Camping on the beach and in Palapas (sea side, thatched pavilions). Day 3-Monday, April 17, 2006 Get used to kayaks and practice paddling. Day paddle the beautiful bay near its islands. Snorkeling and diving for clams. Great just looking into water at colored fish, manta rays, coral. Possible hike to historic cave with intriguing peteroglyphs. Mexican dinner at restaurant. Return under the stars by sea kayak. Day 4-Tuesday, April 18, 2006 Leave on multi-day paddle. Head out across the bay. Remote trip once on the other side. Camp on bay side. Day 5-Wednesday, April 19, 2006 Paddle to the point of the bay. Great sand beach with a beautiful bay to land in. Day 6-Thursday, April 20, 2006 Paddle down the outside of the point. Pass rocky bluffs with good snorkeling. Diving for clams, scallops, tropical fish, lobster. Day 7-Friday, April 21, 2006 Paddle back to the point. Porpoise frequent the area in schools. Day 8-Saturday, April 22, 2006 Paddle to Mulege, a Mexican oasis town with mangrove and palm lined estuary. The town dates back to 1697, site of old mission and prison. Tour town and take bus back to Loreto and spend the night in hotel there. Day 9-Sunday, April 23, 2006 Ride back to the airport early in the morning. If you are returning to the USA east coast it is a long day on airplanes, arriving in the wee hours of the next day. Return to Outing Description. |
