Tentative Itinerary
Note: Times and/or order of activities may be subject to slight changes depending on the opportunities provided by the natural world, weather, trail conditions and/or unforeseen circumstances. Day 1-Monday, April 24, 2006 Arrive in Cortez, CO by 5 pm. Shuttle to the Four Corners School (FCS) basecamp by 6 pm. Dinner and orientation. Day 2-Tuesday, April 25, 2006 Following breakfast, we will drive out to our field camp (2.5 hours) to learn the area and begin our archaeological survey work. In the afternoon, Mick will introduce techniques to be used in this project, give an introduction to Ancestral Pueblo history, and explain the purpose and goals of documentation. We will hike out onto the Ridge for a look around and visit our first site to begin documentation. An evening lecture will follow dinner. Days 3-5-Wednesday-Friday, April 26-28, 2006 These days will follow a basic routine of hiking to sites after breakfast to begin/continue site documentation. Lunches may often be at the sites with work ongoing through the afternoon. There will be ample opportunities to hike, explore, and soak up the beauty of your surroundings throughout this program. Evenings will be spent in camp, sharing sumptuous camp meals and having lectures and/or open discussion on archaeological topics of interest to the group. Day 6-Saturday, April 29, 2006Today we will travel to beautiful Monument Valley where we will tour and hike to renowned local archaeological sites in the area. We will return to the FCS basecamp for a closing dinner by 6 pm. Day 7-Sunday, April 30, 2006 Breakfast, good-byes, and departures. Flights out of Cortez, Colorado should be scheduled after 10 am.
