This mountainous
finger of land, jutting out into the Atlantic Ocean provides the
adventurer spectacular views at almost every turn including views of
mist-covered mountains, green pastures which stretch as far as the eye
can see completely empty save for small herds of sheep and goats, wild
stretches of uninhabitable coastline where deep fissures have been
carved over the centuries by the pounding waves of the Atlantic. This
is a delightful walking/hiking trip and along the way you’ll enjoy
plenty of good Irish cheer, music, history and culture. The level of difficulty is moderate to strenuous with distances from 11 – 15 miles and elevation gains of up to 2000ft.. The terrain will include a variety of narrow country lanes and roads, grassy & muddy trails, beach walks, and some rocky trails so boots are a must. There will be 4 days of guided walks with a local Irish guide who will have extensive knowledge of the area, life in Ireland, its culture and history and 3 days of self-guided hikes led by me. We will hike to 10 different villages and hamlets staying overnight in six different 3* small family-run hotels, guesthouses, or B+B”s. (Tentative Itinerary) Price of $1550 ($75 nonrefundable) includes: Lodging, 8 nights (double occupancy with private bathrooms/showers en-suite); 8 full Irish breakfasts; 3 evening, 4 course dinners; 4 picnic lunches; 6 days of walking on the Dingle Peninsula and 1 day walking on Blasket Islands; transfer of luggage where required; transport to/from each days walking where required; transfer from/to Shannon Airport.
