   GRAND CANYON RAFTING
MAY 6 - 15, 2005
$2409 - Trip Cancelled
Peter Valastro, Jr., Leader
riverExperience the natural wonder of the Grand Canyon on the Colorado River, one of the two major rivers transecting the 75,000 square mile Colorado Plateau. This action, fun-filled whitewater rafting trip will stimulate a wide range of emotions as we spend nine days rafting on the river and hiking side canyons once inhabited by Fremont and Anasazi cultures.

Our adventure begins with a scenic flight from Las Vegas to the Maswik Lodge located on the southern rim of the Grand Canyon. Rise early the next day and enter the Canyon with a 10 mile, 5,000 foot descent on foot along the Bright Angel trail to the put-in near Phantom Ranch. Here we will be met by the staff of Moki Mac River Expeditions, our guides and  outfitters on the river. Moki (Moqui) were pre-historic inhabitants of the Colorado Plateau's river canyons. The 193-mile river journey to Lake Mead will be aboard 18 foot rafts holding 5 passengers and rowed by a guide.

Enjoy the experience of a lifetime through the scenic heart of the canyon where quiet stretches are broken by more than 150 major rapids.  Two are rated class 10 on a scale of 10. Challenging hikes will be offered each day into side canyons with interesting waterfalls and swimming holes. In the evenings we will relive our adventures over dinners prepared by our guides. Sleep in your tent or under the stars listening to the music of the river and anticipating the next day's trip. At Lake Mead, we will travel by jet boat to our takeout at South Cove and then shuttle back to Las Vegas.

Price of $2409 ($100 nonrefundable) includes: 1 night accommodations (double occupancy) at a lodge on the South Rim, tent accommodations (double occupancy) and all meals while on the river, tent, sleeping gear, park fees and transportation from/to Las Vegas. Not included:  Airfare (approximately $400 from Albany, NY), one breakfast, two lunches, one dinner. $350 deposit ($100 nonrefundable) is required to register.  Trip is limited to 16 participants.
