Day 1-Monday, February 21, 2005 Outpost Bed & Breakfast, Arusha, Ngorongoro Wildlife Lodge, Lake Manyara National Park Our outfitter, Dorobo Safari Company, will meet participants at the Outpost Bed and Breakfast at 10 am. We will travel west to the Ngorongoro Wildlife Lodge situated on the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater. If time permits, we will spend a few hours game viewing in Lake Manyara National Park on the way. Lake Manyara National Park provides excellent game watching including tree-climbing lions, baboons and antelope and is known for water birds and African flamingos. If time permits we will visit the bustling market town of Mto-wa-Mbu. We will spend the night in Ngorongoro Wildlife Lodge on the crater rim. Lunch provided today and all meals hereinafter. The cost of travel from the arrival airport to Arusha and overnight accommodation on Sunday, February 20, 2005 is not included in the trip price. Participants may stay at the meeting point, Outpost Bed and Breakfast, or elsewhere in Arusha. They must meet the group at the meeting point at 10 am on Monday, February 21, 2005. The trip leaders can assist in making reservations at the Outpost. Those participants who are also participating in the ADK Kilimanjaro Climb trip will be picked up and taken to the Outpost. Day 2-Tuesday, February 22, 2005 Ngorongoro Crater & Olduvai Gorge, Ndutu Safari Lodge We will spend the day in the Ngorongoro Crater, which is one of the largest unbroken craters on earth and claims the highest density of wildlife on the African continent. The view from the crater rim is breathtaking-a landscape like no other. It is surreal. We will spend most of the day exploring the crater observing the diverse array of wildlife. In the late afternoon we will travel northwest to Olduvai Gorge through land inhabited by the Maasai people. Olduvai Gorge is part of the Leakey's famed archaeological discovery of the hominid that dates back 1.8 million years. Dig sites are still active for a good portion of the year and we will visit the small interpretive museum. Following the visit at Olduvai, we will travel west into the Serengeti to the Ndutu Safari Lodge, located within the Ngorongoro Conservation Area on the southeastern edge of Serengeti National Park. We will spend the night at the Ndutu Safari Lodge. Day 3-Wednesday, February 23, 2005 Serengeti National Park, Ndutu Safari Lodge We will spend the day exploring the area around Ndutu observing wildlife, walking, learning about the Park, and soaking in its magnificence. We will spend the night again at the Ndutu Safari Lodge. Day 4 & 5-Thursday and Friday, February 24-25, 2005 Serengeti National Park, Soit Orgoss Camp We will spend the next two days on safari, heading north in the Serengeti Park to camp in the Soit Orgoss Wilderness area, located in the northwestern part of the Park along the Grumeti River. During our time on safari in the Park, we will visit some local villages, to learn about the Maasai people, their cultures and their co-existence with the animals of the Park. We will camp for two nights at the Soit Orgoss camp area. Day 6-Saturday, February 26, 2005 Serengeti National Park, Seronera Wildlife Lodge We will wake up at camp, spend the day on safari traveling southeast, viewing the interior of the Park and arrive in the central part of the Serengeti to spend our final night at the Seronera Wildlife Lodge. Day 7-Sunday, February 27, 2005 Travel to Arusha We have arrangements for a commercial flight from the Seronera Wildlife Lodge to return us to the Kilimanjaro International Airport, the final trip destination. The short flight should prove to be a fantastic overview of the Park from the small airplane with possible views of Mt. Meru and Kilimanjaro. Participants should be scheduled for an international flight home this evening or make their own arrangements for further travel. Return to Outing Description |
