Founded
in 1000AD, the tiny village (pop.2100) of Alpbach, located at 3300ft.
and famous as Europe's "Flower Village", will be our base for this
hiking adventure. It has twice won Austria's "most beautiful village"
contest. The Alpbach valley is a hiker's paradise with 100 miles
of trails, clean air, lush meadows and spectacular mountains ranging
from 6000 ft.-8000 ft. The routes include the Wiedersberger Horn at
7000ft. and abandoned 15th century copper and silver mines. In
1953, a village decree was issued that all homes must be maintained or
built in the original style making Alpbach the oldest preserved village
in the Tyrolean region. For more photos and
info on the region, click on www.tirol-pur.com.The hiking will be moderate with daily hikes of 5-9 miles and altitude changes of 1000 to 3000ft. The terrain includes forested valleys, high open meadows, and considerable above treeline hiking. Our daily guided hikes (4 days) will be guided by English speaking local certified guides On other days (3) there will be the option of sightseeing and/or more hiking. Regional mountain transportation is available to local cultural attractions in this old world part of Austria. For example: Rattenberg, the picturesque glass city dating back to the middle ages is Austria's smallest city, the farm museum, or lakes where you can swim near Kramsach, or the magnificent castles near Brixlegg. Temperatures in the valley during this period are typically in the 60 to upper 60's range. However, some residual snow may be found on mountain ridges and temperatures can be considerably cooler necessitating a hat, gloves, fleece and windbreakers. The accommodations are in the Tyrolean chalet-style Hotel Alpbacherhof. Our stay at this 4-star 1st class hotel includes 8 nights in double-rooms with private baths, 8 buffet breakfasts and 8 dinners. Lunch and beverages are not included. Most lunches will be taken at high alpine huts with awesome views. ![]() Price of $1275 ($75 nonrefundable) includes: Accommodations (8 nights in double rooms with private baths), 8 buffet breakfasts, 8 dinners and local transportation.
