I
am looking for 10 to 14 strong, convivial hikers to join me for an
incredible adventure trekking across the Austrian Zillertal Alps and
the Italian Dolomites guided by our wonderful quintessential certified
Austrian guides, Franz Larch and Thomas Moser. We will start our trek
just south of Innsbruck, Austria and it will end just north of Venice,
Italy. The trip begins in the Alpine "flower" town of Alpbach about 3 hours south of Munich. We will rendezvous in an Alpbach hotel for greetings, instruction, orientation, and questions followed by dinner with our guides, Franz and Thomas. This trip will be limited to 15 participants plus our guides. This will be a strenuous, 7 day trek, hiking 7 to 8 hours a day (no day off) with daily ascents and descents of 1000ft. to 4000ft. ![]() After catching up on some sleep, we begin the adventure at "Schegeis-Stausee" at the back end of the Zillertal Alps and proceed south over the Northern Dolomites and then the Southern Dolomites ending at the Italian town of Belluno. We will hike approximately 15 to 20 km (9-13 miles) a day on spectacular trails through high alpine meadows carpeted with flowers, through or over awesome gorges, past numerous waterfalls, face to face with several glaciers and always surrounded with magnificent mountain vistas. We will sleep in mountain huts with breathtaking views. The huts, where we will also have our daily breakfasts and dinners (not included), vary in their accommodations; but are all warm, cozy and offer cold running water, indoor toilets and anywhere from 2 to 12 person rooms. You will only need to carry a sleeping bag, rain and wind gear, extra clothes, and personal items (20-30 lbs.). We will end the hike
at Belluno about a 45 minute bus ride from
Venice. I expect many of us will want to take this opportunity to
visit this famous antiquity, considered by many to be the most
beautiful city in the world, before we depart for America or other
destinations.Price of $800 ($75 nonrefundable) includes: Transportation from Alpbach to the trailhead; one night at an Alpbach hotel including dinner & breakfast; 7 nights in the huts; and the costs of our two guides. Not included: Airfare, meals in the huts and bus transport during the trek.
