   HIKING & CLIMBING IN ECUADOR

Trek, hike and climb your way to the summits of four extinct volcanoes in the Andes Mountains of Ecuador:  Pasachoa (13,794 feet), Rucu Pichincha (15,706 feet), Imbabura (15,203 feet) and Rumiñahui (15,460 feet).  Enjoy spectacular views of such snow-capped giants as Cotopaxi (19,348 feet), Chimborazo (20,703 feet), Cayambe(18,997), and Antisana(18,715), and the surrounding countryside. Stay in a 4-star hotel in Quito, Ecuador and 300-year-old haciendas along the way. Between climbs visit Old Town Quito, the equator, the Indian market towns of Otavalo and Cotacachi (leather goods), Pasachoa Forest Preserve, Lake Cuicocha, Cotopaxi National Park, and the hotsprings and waterfalls in the town of Baños. Moderate to strenuous hikes of 6-8 hours each. Maximum daily vertical gain between 2000-3000 feet. Some rock scrambling. All climbs led by American outfitter and licensed, experienced Ecuadorean mountain guides. Client-to-guide ratio of 2:1, guaranteed. Side trips between climbs led by bilingual Ecuadorean tourist guide. Transportation in private, comfortable vans and 4x4 vehicles. Most meals included: all breakfasts (9 total -mostly buffet style), 5 lunches, 4 dinners (including Farewell Dinner celebration in Quito). Accommodations (double occupancy) include:
  • 5 nights at the 4-star Hotel Rio Amazonas in Quito
  • 2 nights at the 300-year-old Hosteria El Meson de las Flores in Cotacachi
  • 1 night at Tambopaxi in Cotopaxi National Park
  • 1 night at the 400-year-old Hosteria La Cienega
  • 1 night at the 3-star Hotel Palace in Baños
Tentative Itinerary

Price of $1925 ($300 nonrefundable) includes: All accommodations (double occupancy),  all transportation in Ecuador (including airport transfers), all guiding services, all breakfasts, 5 lunches, 4 dinners and all park entrance fees. Not included: Airfare to Quito, Ecuador (approximately $600 roundtrip from New York), personal expenses (including medical expenses, medical insurance and personal travel), some meals during trip (4 lunches and 5 dinners), gratuities (Optional. $3 to $5 per guide per day from each member of the group is reasonable), alcoholic beverages and airport departure tax ($25). A $300 nonrefundable deposit is required to register. Balance, payable by check, is due by December 2, 2004.
