Thank you for your interest in ADK Boundary Waters Canoe Trip in Minnesota. The Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW) is a million acres of glaciated bedrock covered with birch and pine forests, laced with over a thousand sparkling lakes and rivers.  Portage trails connect these lakes and rivers to provide one of the top-ten sites to visit in the world according to National Geographic Traveler magazine.  The BWCAW is part of the Quetico-Superior Ecosystem.  It borders Ontario's Quetico Provincial Park to the north and Voyageurs National Park to the west.  This ecosystem encompasses over 2.5 million acres and is home to diverse North American wildlife. Fishing is superb with walleye, small mouth bass, northern pike and lake trout readily caught.   The 5 day canoe trip into the BWCAW includes wilderness camping, hiking, historic sites, Native American pictographs as well as spectacular waterfalls, streams and lakes. There will be opportunities to photograph wildlife, relax along the shore and hear 300 year old stories of the voyageurs. You do not need to be an expert canoeist but you do need have basic skills, and the physical conditioning to paddle 5-7 hr/day and carry gear and canoes while portaging up to 1 mile in one location. Most portages are less than 1/4 of a mile. Participants  should enjoy the challenges of wilderness camping, be a team player  and be willing to share duties and help others. There will be two days following the canoe trip to explore the Ely area by visiting the International Wolf Center, Dorothy Molter Museum, Tower-Sudan underground mine and the many quaint shops featuring hand-made items and art from Minnesota.
